My Story

At just 10 years old, living on a dairy farm in New Zealand, I made the bold choice to become a vegetarian, indulging in endless servings of broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, and cheese sauce. Little did I know, I had much to learn about nutrition and the needs of my growing body. Back then, eating out often meant settling for a simple salad of lettuce, tomato, and cucumber or a rice risotto. My journey took another turn when I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in my 40s, adding more challenges as I adopted a gluten-free diet.

My curiosity (and doubt) about the widely marketed vitamin and mineral supplement industry we’re told we need to survive, led to a career change focused on nutritional medicine. I am passionate about understanding how nutrients function in the body and the synergistic benefits of whole foods. My love for crafting healthy, delicious meals is strengthened by witnessing how nutrition can heal and energize us, both physically and mentally.

As a lifelong traveler and living in different countries, I have explored traditional foods and the ways people prepare, share and enjoy meals across cultures, which also has a positive impact on health.

Raising two children in a rapidly changing food environment—where fast and convenience foods are everywhere—has brought its challenges. But ultimately, I’ve encouraged them to be curious about food and to understand how their choices impact their health and wellbeing.

Qualifications: BHSc Nutritional Medicine (with distinction); BA (Hons 1st class) in Psychology; Associate Registered Nutritionist, Nutrition Society of New Zealand.

I offer one-on-one consultations in a relaxed home environment in Karori, Wellington for people of all ages and with a wide range of health conditions.  As a way of reaching more people, I also present  nutrition talks to staff at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
